The Alexander is Indy's newest (and really only) boutique hotel. The Alexander is more than just a place to sleep and more a lifestyle. The experience starts as you drive up to the hotel. The contemporary lines and shape of the building look more like you are entering an art gallery, which you kind of are. From the moment you walk into The Alexander, you are greeted with one of the fourteen site specific art pieces unique to The Alexander. Hanging above guests is the extension of the art space of Platt99.
Jorge Pardo, award winning artist, created the interactive arts space that creates Platt99. The first thing you will notice are the 99 glowing glass pieces suspended above the patrons of the mixology lounge. Platt99 is open to the public and is one of Indy's hottest night spots. Just like the hotel, look around and notice all the details of the lounge. The hand painted tile floor. The foot rest around the bar are the original train tracks that were unearthed during the building of the hotel. Make sure to order the unique cocktails specifically created for the space, and if you are hungry Platt 99 offers tasty small bites.
If Platt99 doesn't set the tone for the rest of the hotel, than take a moment and sit in the "living room" of the hotel. A stylish lounge area to greet travelers as they check in, or for anyone who just wants to look at some art and see a great view of the city. This space is the area that guests can check in, but you will probably be Indianapolis Museum of Art curated most of the contemporary art pieces found through the hotel. Paul Villinski's piece of vinyl records sculpted into birds flying out of the record player. Make sure to check out what vinyl record he choose to be playing. Also in the space is a wall sculpture of 3,840 combs forming the face of Madame CJ Walker, another Indianapolis historical figure. Don't worry about being too distracted to actually check-in to the the hotel. The Alexander is one of three hotels that you can check in via iPad.

Did you park in the parking garage? There is even art there too. The entire garage features an internationally known graffiti artists Nick Walker aka Vandal. You won't be able to miss the bold street art around the garage. There is artwork everywhere in The Alexander, even the ladies restroom. Artist Kim Beck, layered vinyl images of weeds native to the area, to create a twist on normally overlooked pieces of nature.
With all this art, what about the rooms? Sleek. Modern. Trendy. The wood floor rooms invite you into a sleek space that is bold and inviting. From the plush bed to the shower head, no detail was left unattended too. Each room features a unique art piece specific to that room. That can be purchased from 20X200. No artwork is the same in the hotel. Each room offers guest robes and special treats specific to Indianapolis. You won't have this experience anyplace else. Trust us you will want to taste the local treats that are in each room.
If you are coming to Indy to explore too, the hotel offers guests bikes to explore the city which is known as a friendly pedestrian and bike friendly city. The hotel is located blocks from the center of the city. It is across the street of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, home of the Pacers. It is blocks away from Circle Center mall and downtown Indy's wide selection of restaurants, bar, and entertainment. This is the place to see some of Indy's stylish crowd. Cheers!
