The Pebble watch via Getpebble.com |
For many reading this, you still might be let down with the lack of innovation in the hoverboard industry.
Maybe that is why there is some excitement around the recent watch development. The Samsung galaxy commercial pretty much sums up the source of the excitement. It is one of the last epic promises that the world has been promised.
Don't put your hopes in the fact of getting a hoverboard, or a car that floats among the the clouds. Instead we get connected devices on the wrist. Some might see it as an unnecessary twist on a watch, others might find it a dream that we were promised.
Fashion x Tech
The source of innovation within the fashion industry, comes from the integration of technology. A designer we featured in the SC19 Fall Trend Guide, Brian Atwood, used special 3M technology fabric in his Fall 2013 collection. Columbia Sportswear has a jacket that is powered by battery packs. The jacket is wired to provide heat to radiate throughout the jacket. The jacket can also charge your smartphone through a USB cord. The line between good looking clothes and functional fashion has merged together. In fashion we rarely look at the present, and look at the future. What is next, and who is going to be the first to find it. That explains some of the interest in what technology is being married with fashion design in some aspect.
It is not just a watch - it is different
It's a NEW watch. Not everyone has one, so everyone is at least curious to get one on their wrist. Yes it is a glamorized watch. No we don't want it because we can check our email, or reply to a text. We want it so we can tell people what our watch can do. We want it because people will talk about our watch. The designs are boxy and not really reflective of fashionable watch trends, but that doesn't matter. When we wear the watch with a suit to a meeting, we look tech forward and hip. The most fashionable will probably wear it a couple of times and then move on.You say mobility development, we say fashionable accessory. Researching fashion and tech recently, SC19 came across this gem of a video from real technology industry professionals. It comes from a web dialog series between Kyle Lacy and Jay Baer on the ExactTarget series Baer Facts. It is a different perspective of continued development of tech integrating with our lives.
Are you planing to get one of the smartwatches? Have a smartwatch already and want to share you perspective. Comment below if you are into that kind of thing. Like always you can tweet to @_Jeremiah_, Social Club 19 executive editor.
Thanks! Of all the videos I've done with Kyle, this is the one where I wonder if I'll eat my words someday!
ReplyDeleteJay it will be interesting to see who embraces the smartwatch. Fashion vs. Tech.
